The
feast of the Annunciation, also known as Lady Day, celebrates
the appearance of the archangel Gabriel to Mary, with the announcement
that she is to bear the child of God, a story told in the first chapter
of the Gospel of Luke. It is an important day for believers, a time to
focus on the doctrine of the incarnation, i.e. that the Word of God was
made flesh in the form of his son, Jesus Christ.
